Musical Education and Early Career
In 1969, I began my formal musical education at the LSU School of Music, majoring in oboe and studying with Earnest Harrison. In 1971, I transferred to Henderson State University, where I completed a Bachelor of Music Education (BME) degree in 1975. During this period, I was actively performing as Principal Oboe with the South Arkansas Symphony from 1973 to 1978.
Introduction to Pianocorder and Piano Work
In 1979, I was introduced to the Pianocorder Retrofit Player System, marking the beginning of my work with pianos. Installing this system required each instrument to be in proper concert regulation—essentially preparing the piano to perform at a concert artist level.
I quickly expanded my skill set beyond installation, developing the ability to regulate and refine piano actions to meet high musical standards shaped by my training with Earnest Harrison. This led to a disciplined approach to diagnosing and restoring piano actions to optimal playing condition.
Key Aspects of This Period
This phase ended when Pianocorder was acquired by Yamaha and subsequently discontinued.
On-Site Installations and Travel Experience
My work with Pianocorder Entertainment primarily involved contract-based, on-site installations. Each project required transporting tools, installing the system, and performing full concert regulation to ensure peak performance.
This period stands out as the most productive and fulfilling phase of my career.
